Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (Spanish: [fiˈðel ˈkastro]; born August 13, 1926) is a Cuban communist revolutionary and politician who was Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and President from 1976 to 2008.He also served as the Commander in Chief of the country’s armed forces from 1959, and as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011.

Politically a Marxist-Leninist, under his administration the Republic of Cuba became a one-party socialist state; industry and businesses were nationalized, and socialist reforms implemented in all areas of society.

Castro was also the Secretary-General of the Non-Aligned Movement, from 1979 to 1983 and from 2006 to 2008.

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (Birán, Holguín, 13 de agosto de 1926), conocido como Fidel Castro, es un militar, revolucionario, estadista y político cubano. Fue mandatario de su país como primer ministro (1959-1976) y presidente (1976-2008).

También fue comandante en jefe de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias (1956-2008)3 y mantuvo el poder como primer secretario del Partido Comunista desde 1965 hasta 2011, cuando terminó definitivamente su mandato y le transfirió todos los poderes de la nación a su hermano Raúl.

Es diputado de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular (desde 1976). Profesionalmente es abogado, doctor en Derecho Civil y licenciado en Derecho Diplomático.
